.Finding my story.

I met an artist at CraftBoston - a sweet kind spirit - her art evoked such a reaction within me. She is a metalsmith/jewelry designer but her pieces were stories to me, they transported me to somewhere else. I've never experienced this with jewelry. I told her I was so inspired by her art and she said,

- We just have to make our art and put it out there - some people are going to get it (appreciate it) and others won't even look our way - but we have to be true to ourselves - these are the stories that are inside of me -

I just keep running her words through my mind - wondering

What is my story?
What do I need to tell?
How will I tell it?

.new wears.

I have been so inspired to make lately. I committed myself to take three jewelry classes a week this summer. It was a demanding immersion that allowed me to return to that creative space I haven't been in for so long. To constantly be designing and creating. Siting in this space I began to look at the things I encountered as elements of designs - examining how they interact with other elements - how the degrees of light transition throughout the day - the beauty in the details.

I spent this past weekend in the studio - the entire weekend. Lost in the process of looking at a sheet of metal, sawing out a design, forging, texturing, firing, and sanding it into a finished piece. I am so excited about what came out of the weekend. I am editing pictures of them today and will share them with you soon. But I am just too excited so here is a little preview of the "versatile simplicity" look book (with my beautiful sister as the model).

.mixed media ring.

I love the combination of metal and fiber. It's such a beautiful balance between the harsh and subtle. I am taking metal smith classes this summer at a small art center and with every class I am reminded of how much I love working with metal - making jewelry. I just get lost in the process and the journey of a design unveiling itself.

Do you have something like that in your life? What is it?

This is the first ring of the summer season. It's a little less practical than I have made before and much more contemporary but I playing with design and finding my voice in metal.
