I pick you up
bounce you to sleep
cradle you
when I'm sure you're truly asleep
I crawl into bed with you in my arms
lay down, s l o w l y
19 pounds on my chest
a weighted hug
just lay there
my right arm cradling your head and my left holding your bum
Drifting off to sleep, I think, I could hug you forever
I wake up sometime later, you're still on my chest but were no longer hugging
the separateness is lost
I can't feel where I end and you begin
we're one, coalesced again
my arms are wrapped around myself, us
to remember when we were
once one, now only tightly interwoven
I adore you, forever
